Many cars in Oregon are for sale with "Salvage Title". What does this mean? Can I drive it, license it, insure it?
A salvage title means the car was damaged beyond what it’s worth. it would cost too much to fix. That means even though it was rebuilt to run again, it will never run the same. You’ll have problems all the while you own it. And not just minor things. You could have engine, transmission, steering and suspension problems forever. And you’ll have a very hard time selling it because most people won’t go near a salvaged car.
And you should check with your insurance company because most of them now won’t cover salvaged cars anymore. There’s far too much liability with them and they don’t need the headache and ulcers they cause.

I have my driver licence almost eight months ago in NH. Now I moved to Mas and I pay about $ 210 per month for car insurance. I want to know if I can find cheaper or this not too bad for a new driver. I own a 2000 ford Taurus since two months. What do you think guys?
the cheapest insurance i could find when i first started driving was nationwide but it was still just over 200$/month. So it looks like your right in the ball park of it all for full coverage.

My current car insurance policy runs out at the end of the month and I will not be renewing with them. I am getting a new car approx 2 weeks before the expiry date. Can i start the insurance with another company and ‘overlap’ the insurance ?
You CAN do that since you are changing anyway.
You might want to notify your PRIOR insurance company once you have the NEW coverage in force – just to avoid any duplication of coverage and any "earned premium." If the company automatically renews and you don’t inform them, they might try to collect for the time you had coverage in force.
Just show them a copy of your NEW policy and they will cancel the old.
That’s the way it SHOULD be done.
Good luck, drive RESPONSIBLY and I hope this helps!

I need a car thats not very expensive, and one that is good on gas. I am a new driver so i would prefer something not to big. Any ideas? Or know where I can get a good car in upstate NY?
My suggestion is to get something that has good safety ratings, and is cheaper to insure. You may want to contact an insurance company to see what sorts of cars are cheaper to insure. A lot of young drivers crash Civics, so the insurance is higher.
If you are looking for an inexpensive new car, the Chevy Aveos are very nice. They are surprisingly fun to drive. Or a Chevy Cobalt.
You may also consider looking at used cars, but be careful. You may want to have a male friend who is good with cars to go with you so he can inspect it and if you test drive, he can listen for any possible problems with it. Plus, there are a lot of salespeople who don’t respect women.
My first car was a Volkswagen Bug. It was great. They are safe. and you can find used ones rather inexpensive now.
Good luck! It is very exciting to get your first car!

I am going to be buying a car from a guy I saw online selling it on an online forum. I am going to have a car transport setup to send the car to me from it’s location. I am getting the title and bill of sale and I think I’ll use paypal to send him the money. My question is that if there is any way thats more secure or a better way thats more legit to cover me and what not? Am I missing anything, what would you do.
Where do I get the insurance from?
If you can buy insurance on the deal I would. I have purchased a car online with no problems… I paid cash. Between freinds and family I have seen 3 vehicles purchased or sold on-line. One was a bad deal the purchaser used a bad cashiers check. good luck…

I’m hoping someone who knows law sees this question. Both parties in this car sale, will be signing a typed contract with the terms spelled out: the payment, the due date, the interest rate, the # of months, the amount financed, etc. But, does this contract have to be run through a lawyer in any fashion to be legal or will it stand up in court without involving one?
NO! A contract for an auto is binding in court. I would do several tings to protect the seller and the buyer.
1. Get copies of drivers license.
2 Get copies of current insurance (Liability, comp and collision)
3 Add affidavit stating insurance must be current at all times
4 List yourself as lienholder on back of title.
5 File title with state
6 Sign all papers at the BANK in front of notaty this holds up in court (the bank gives you and buyer security when exchanging money)

Now that the government has shelled out another 2 billion, how many people in about a year or two will probably have to have their new cars repossesed?
That would be my prediction. If they are already struggling it doesn’t make much since to add an additional $400 + car payment and now they must have full coverage insurance.

With all the recent tornadoes, it’d be interesting to know what happens to all the new cars that are damaged at dealerships. Does anyone know??
Those that can be repaired will be. Those that can’t, junked for parts. Dealerships have insurance too!
