new jersey state tax : I bought two cars in 2006 in New jersey,Can I deduct the sales taxed ??

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

I paid a lot of sales taxes on theses new cars.
I don’t know if I can deduct theses taxes from the taxes I have to pay in New Jersey ??
Thank you

If you are not itemizing your deductions , no you could not.

If you are itemizing your deductions on Schedule A, rather than taking the standard deduction, then yes. Do you have any other itemized deductions, real estate property taxes, mortgage interest, medical expenses that exceed 7.5%of your Adjusted Gross income? Compare what you have in itemized deductions to what the standard deduction is for your filing status. Use the figure that is going to allow you to subtract the most from your income.
If you have any questions call the Internal Revenue Service at

Is it safe to place 2 new car tires at the back of the car?

Monday, February 15th, 2010

I just changed 2 tires for my car. I didn’t change all 4 because the old ones were fairly new. They said that it was safe to place the new tires at the back of the car (it’s a 2 wheel drive) and placed the old tires to the front. The new tires are different brands than the original ones. Is that safe?

By the time I finish typing this you will get a lot of answers saying they should be on the front.

All of those people are WRONG.

It is the official recommendation of the Rubber Manufacturers Association, the Tire Industry Association and all of the major tire manufacturers that when only 2 tires are being replaced the new tires be installed on the REAR AXLE.

In fact, Michelin Tire just lost a $34-million liability lawsuit because one of their stores put 2 new tires on the front axle, the car lost control and spun turning one of the passengers into a quadraplegic. And the reason for putting the tires with the best traction on the rear axle is just that – to prevent a sudden loss of traction at the rear of the car which inevitably results in a violent and uncontrollable spin. The Michelin Tire web site has a 2.5 minute video demonstrating why.

So if they were installed on the rear you were dealing with true professionals who knew what they were doing and yes, that is the safest place to have them.

Buying a new car: "cost to change" query?

Friday, February 12th, 2010

I’m planning on part exchanging a 2 year old Mercedes (yep, because of fuel cost!) for a cheaper, more economical model.

Can anyone advise if franchised dealers have a minimum "cost to change" figure when taking a part exchange in return for a new car sale?

The differential between my current car and the one I want will be about £800 – £1200 and I wondered if dealers will just want to see more cash out of the deal in order to be interested. Thanks

Generally, yes, especially for your model.

The risk they have is of buying in a car which will be slow to sell and depreciate in value whilst sitting on their forecourt. At the moment, good mpg cars are selling like hotcakes and low mpg models are plummeting in value and are slow to move without heavy discounting.

With a model such as yours, a buyer would also expect the car to be retailed on a virtually "as new" basis, so the dealer would have to service the car and prepare it to the highest standards and then provide a warranty comparable to a new car. All of these things cost the dealer a lot of up-front money.

To try and offset these issues, the dealer has to offer you the absolute minimum possible and currently it’s often below what current printed and online price guides are indicating. The dealer also knows that fuel-efficient cars are selling very strongly at the moment so not only have the windscreen prices gone up but the dealer also has less incentive to offer a discounted price.

Your cost to change will therefore likely be somewhat higher than you planned.

What rights do you have when buying a brand new car?

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

I bought a new Audi TT two years ago that is already showing signs of rust. Audi have told me that are aware of the fault, and did infact recall some cars for this reason. However they will not replace my car, only repair it. Should i have to settle for a reapir when i have clearly been sold a faulty car?
They have offered to repair it for free…i dont want a repaired car though…..not when i paid £25k for it!
To the idiot that thinks i should be grateful to be able to have my car repaired……..you clearly either work for Audi or are just plain stupid. And for your infomation, I have a Vauxhall Vectra that is 5 years old, without any sign of rust…and that car was half the cost of this one. It is stupid people like you that make it so easy for large companies to rip people off.
It really does astound me that so many people seem to think that i should be GRATEFUL that the manufacturer are offering to repair a fault that they sold the car, knowing it would develop, and it is still within the three year warranty. People these days really must have low expectations when then spend thousands of pounds on something!

As someone said previously, the car has some body and paint issues, but the engine and all other components work fine, right? If that’s the case, I’d be happy with what they offered. They are under no obligation to replace a car that runs fine, and in fact probably could have made some claims about road conditions or some other crap that makes them not responsible for anything. I’d let them fix it, and if you still hate the car, sell it and buy something else. What they are offering seems perfectly normal to me, and in fact gives me a little more respect for Audi. A lot of other manufacturers would not have stepped up like that to fix a cosmetic problem.

I want to sale my car and get a new one for the same price like a trade how would i do that?

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

Well, you would need to see what the trade-in value is on your current car. Depending on how much you owe on your car verses the payoff, you might need to purchase a lesser car in order to get the same payment. A lot depends on the car you have now, the payment you have, and how much equity you have. You can email if you have more questions. Good Luck!

how can I generate my own new car sales leads?

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

Just started a new job at a popular dealership. Wanted to know how I could possibly generate my own car sales leads.

Write a letter to everyone and anyone you know. Just let them know you started at the dealership and if you can be of any help call. Once they know they will tell their friends if a conversation about new cars comes up.

Next, be on the lot at all times, I have seen so many people waiting at their desk for someone to come to them, if you are on the lot you can approach people as soon as they start looking.

Take some of your business cards and post them around on area bullitien boards, usually the grocery stores, corner stores, pizza places etc. have them.

If you have a little extra money for about $50.00 – $100.00 per month you can advertise on the placemats in diner or local resturants as well as the local auto trader.

Hope this helps.

Are You Considering a Car Loan Online?

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

Are you looking into a car loan online? If so then you are likely to find that there are a number of really good deals to be found. Everybody would love a cheap car loan, but finding one can be a nightmare. No matter whether you want to purchase a new or a used car, the right loan can help you to afford the car that you need.
Shop around for the right quote! There are so many things that you need to consider before looking for a car loan online. The first is that not all car loans are the same. The main difference is the amount of money that you will have to pay back. Ideally you want a loan in which you pay back as close to the amount that you are borrowing as possible. For example, if you want to borrow $30,000 then you do not want a car loan that will cost you a total of $45,000 to pay back! Fortunately most car loans are a little more affordable than the example shown, but you do have to be careful!
Shopping around for the best car loan online will help you to find the best deal to suit your needs. It is also a lot easier too. If you search for a loan offline then you could spend hours ringing up different companies only to find that you do not fit the requirements needed for the loan. By looking online you can instantly see what the requirements are and whether you could be eligible. You also save time as applying for a quote online takes literally two minutes and you then get a decision back instantly.
It is important that you put as much diligence into finding a car loan online as you did when you actually shopped for your ideal car. After all, it is a big decision to take out a car loan and so you need to ensure that you are paying for the best loan possible. Check the terms and conditions to see that there are no hidden fees to pay. Some companies may charge you administration fees or early repayment fees if you choose to pay the loan off early. It may seem like hard work reading through the small print, but if you don’t you could end up regretting it.
Getting a quote online could also save you money. The main reason for this is by applying online it is not only easier for you, but it is also easier for the lender too. So to thank you for applying online they tend to give you a small discount. This makes getting a car loan online the cheaper option. However, while it is generally cheaper it is still worth looking around offline too just to double check that you are getting the best deal.
Overall, applying for a car loan online is definitely a good idea. It is quick, simple and often a lot cheaper than applying offline. As long as you look around properly for the best deals to suit you, you should end up with the best quote to suit your needs.

What happens to new unsold cars from closed dealers?

Friday, December 4th, 2009

I live in Illinois, Chicago area and a lot of dealers are closing due to economic reasons. Now with all the hype , i’m curious to know what happens to all those new cars? where are they taken?

Most of the cars on the lot are purchased by the dealer using money from the bank or some financing organization. Those cars will need to be liquidated quickly, so whatever the dealer is unable to sell to its customers before it closes up shop are then sold to other dealers that are still in business.

What are the little circles on the rear bumper of new cars?

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

I’ve noticed a lot of new cars and trucks have these small circles (about a half inch in diameter) on the rear bumper.

I’m curious what they are. Are they sensors for airbags or mounting bolts or something?

They are reverse sensors that alert the driver when the car is getting too close to another object. I wish more pick-ups and suv’s had them.

Hyundai Canada Response: [Original] Extreme Fitness BMW parking failure. Worst parking job ever!

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

This Official Hyundai Auto Canada video is a response to the original ‘Extreme Fitness BMW parking failure. Worst parking job ever’ video. This video shows a Hyundai customer’s car, a 2004 Elantra, being crushed in a really bad parking job. Not Smart. Hyundai wanted to help and this video shows what happened. We went to find the owner of the Hyundai that was the victim of the bad park job and as a random act of kindness, we gave the owner, Todd Jamison, a free car, a brand new 2010 Hyundai Elantra Touring! Todd said ‘Wow’ a lot and ‘That’s fantastic!’ We gave a great car to a great guy. Smart is doing good. At Hyundai, we like a story with a happy ending.
