Is it safe to place 2 new car tires at the back of the car?

Monday, February 15th, 2010

I just changed 2 tires for my car. I didn’t change all 4 because the old ones were fairly new. They said that it was safe to place the new tires at the back of the car (it’s a 2 wheel drive) and placed the old tires to the front. The new tires are different brands than the original ones. Is that safe?

By the time I finish typing this you will get a lot of answers saying they should be on the front.

All of those people are WRONG.

It is the official recommendation of the Rubber Manufacturers Association, the Tire Industry Association and all of the major tire manufacturers that when only 2 tires are being replaced the new tires be installed on the REAR AXLE.

In fact, Michelin Tire just lost a $34-million liability lawsuit because one of their stores put 2 new tires on the front axle, the car lost control and spun turning one of the passengers into a quadraplegic. And the reason for putting the tires with the best traction on the rear axle is just that – to prevent a sudden loss of traction at the rear of the car which inevitably results in a violent and uncontrollable spin. The Michelin Tire web site has a 2.5 minute video demonstrating why.

So if they were installed on the rear you were dealing with true professionals who knew what they were doing and yes, that is the safest place to have them.

How does the new car replacement work with allstate after your car is totaled?

Monday, February 15th, 2010

My truck was hit by another car and my insurance totaled it and i have new car replacement so i was wondering how that works. Do they get me another one and i continue my note or am i note free? Just wondering how that all works thanks.

They pay the full undepreciated value of the vehicle, the loan is paid out of the settlement, and the difference is your down payment to purchase another vehicle of your choice.

Does Michigan have a cooling off period for a new car sale?

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

My 77 year old father moved to Michigan and lives alone. He bought a new jeep and for no reason traded it in on one 6 mos. new, same exact color and everything. We later found out he had a seizure and memory loss and was hospitalized in a pysicartic ward for a few weeks. He is much better, but not totally mentally stable. He just went and bought another new jeep, traded in the 2nd one with only 400 miles on it. The dealer only gave him $2200 and he still owed $2400. He had free financing on the one he traded in, but not on this new one. He called up one day after he got it and asked to bring it back and they told him no, they already filed the title. What can I do to make them take it back and not cost him a lot of money, which he does not have?

will adding a new sunroof and navigation system to a new car void the warranty?

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

I am planning of putting a new sunroof and navigation system to my new altima 08, but will adding these features from a aftermarket void my warranty, or will the dealership tell me something if i do. I dont know anything about what they do if i put those feature in the car. Please help. I would really appreciate your answers.

A reputable after market shop can put in a sunroof with no warranty conflicts; also, the sunroof should be warranteed by the supplier. If you’re going to use a nav system that simply plugs into the lighter outlet, there are no problems with your factory warranty on the car. All you’re doing is using the 12 volt power supply.

Will new car speakers work if used with a factory radio?

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

I want to add a sub woofer to my ‘98 7 series BMW, but I am not entirely sure if the factory radio can handle it. Buying a new radio would result in having to rewire the entire car, seeing as how the power from the radio would overload my factory amp, and in turn, the speakers. Do I have to buy a new radio, or will the sub woofer even affect it?

Your factory radio will need a preout for your AMP. This you will need. If so then it should go as hard as your amp will allow.

How can you keep that new car luster?

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

You can always tell a new car. Yet once it’s been used for a while
it loses that new car luster despite the owner’s best intentions.
Is there a secret to keeping a new car looking NEW?
I have tried urine, it doesn’t work well.

Yes, wax it once a month and wash it weekly.

CAR SALESMEN…be honest…how much do you make (commission or otherwise) on the average NEW CAR sale?

Friday, February 12th, 2010

One salesman told me he makes $100 per vehicle he sells. Is this accurate? I know it’ll vary from location to location, and dealer to dealer, but the AVERAGE?

On a new car on average bout $250 add on’s extended warranty’s etc that is where big $$ is made and the salesman doesn’t see that.

Used cars are much better more profit can be made,Pay $2000 for a trade in and resale it for $8000 (done every day) the dealership takes out prep charges and service and and and then the salesman get a % of profit made. Then commission could be in the $500 to $800 range depends .

When I was a green pea (new salesman) I got $150 per sale no matter what the profit was… with a Base of $1500 a month (6 days a week 12 hour days) when I went straight commission I averaged bout $300 per car sold 12 to 16 cars a month. Most average salesperson will make $25k a year starting out and get up to $40k after a few years. BUT at a good dealership and with large amount of UP’s (customers) the average sales person will make $60 to 80K some will make over $100k but you have to have large volume of customers and sell 30 cars a month. That’s hard I have HEARD some sales people selling over 100 cars a month … never seen it…..

NEW CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Hey, i passed my driving test about 6 months ago, and drove a corsa sxi for about 3 months, before going to university. I now require a car again, but to get insured on the corsa is 2k for my age and lack of experience and the engine and version of the corsa.

Therefore i need to buy a new car, im looking at going to auctions, cos my brother picked up a really good sound polo from an auction for a fraction of the price and has had no problems for over a year…

I have about £1,500 but stuck to decide which make and car to do for…I like fiestas a lot, the 2003 onward shape, but im not sure if im being realistic with my budget…

Any suggestions of any other cars which are good for drivers like me which i could pick up for under my budget.

Many thanks in advance

£1500 will certainly not get you a 2003 new shape fiesta unless its a turd. Car prices are well up on last year due to scrappage and a lack of cheaper used cars and plenty of buyers.

With your budget I’d look in your local paper and see what comes up. CAP (car auction price) is going to go up again this month at the cheap end with so many cars having been written off with the recent bad weather.
