How difficult is it to put new seats in my car?

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

I have a 1987 Subaru Justy; it’s a terrific car that is mechanically sound and has tonnes of life left. Plus it’s my baby and I plan on keeping it forever.

However, the rear seat has sun damage and the driver seat is cracked and worn from wear. Also the carpet near the pedals has worn through. It looks ugly and I have seat covers, but it doesn’t look as good as having actual upholestry.

Where would I find seats for this car? I tried Ebay but there’s none. Also tried dismantling yards, but this car is pretty rare and couldn’t find any. Any websites you know of?

Also, once I find some, how hard is it for a "do-it-yourselfer" to take the old ones and bolt new ones in? It seems like it’d be just a number of bolts holding the seat and tracks to the floor.

Probably get them recovered cheaper, to match your colors. You’re talking a 20 year old car, so most seats will probably be in the same condition.

Front seats are just 4 bolts and maybe a wire connector. Rear seats are pretty simple as well.

You can try at this site. BTW, this is a great site for Subie owners.
